Crews Begin Demolition For University Of Somerset Project

somerset-kentucky.com

Site preparation is underway in southern Kentucky for what supporters label as the state’s first private research university.  Board of Directors for the new University of Somerset announced Monday the start of work for the anticipated location for the main campus in downtown Somerset.

Crews have begun demolition of structures off South Vine Street in preparation for a four-year institution.  The news release states the University of Somerset will be a traditional university centered upon face to face instruction and student interaction.  It goes on to say degrees will include artificial intelligence, homeland security, molecular engineering, and nanotechnology.  There will also be traditional offerings in areas like English, education, math, and political science.  A Bluegrass Research Alliance feasibility study found that a four-year university would yield $128 million in annual economic impact for the area.
