Fayette Schools Announce Superintendent's Unexpected Death

fcps.net

Fayette County Schools Superintendent Manny Caulk has died unexpectedly.  The Lexington Herald-Leader reports Fayette School Board Chair Stephanie Squires sent a message to school families just before midnight Friday.  The 49 year old Caulk had been on medical leave for several days.  Squires announced the leave last week but provided no details about his medical condition.

In a statement, Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton said, “we will always remember Manny Caulk for his devotion to our children. He put their safety first, working as part of our stakeholder group to combat the pandemic. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time,” said Gorton.

In 2015, shortly after he was hired, Caulk underwent an 18 hour surgery to remove a malignant tumor from his nasal cavity.

Marlene Helm is currently acting superintendent, a positions she’s held more than once previously in the Lexington school district.
