McFaddin Named As 14th President Of EKU: Extended Conversation

The Eastern Kentucky University Board of Regents has voted unanimously to name David McFaddin as the 14th president of the Richmond school.  The eastern Kentucky native moves from Interim President to becoming the permanent President.

David McFaddin stepped into the interim role as EKU President upon Michael Benson’s resignation the first of this year.  Several regents including Laura Babbage applauded his leadership during the past several months of a pandemic. “I’m thrilled that we have a president young enough to keep the reins for a long time and energetic enough to be right there with us,” said Babbage.

EKU Board Chair Lewis Diaz said  McFaddin has, quote, “all the essentials and then some of what you’re looking for in a leader.”  McFaddin offered praise for his administrative team. “I have the most amazing group of people who are dedicated to this institution in a way that I wouldn’t want to serve with anyone else and I think the best of us will come next.  The best of this institution is ahead of us,” noted McFaddin.

Faculty Regent Jason Marion acknowledged the search process was hampered by the current health impacts.  Marion said McFaddin has demonstrated strong work ethic and a willingness to seek out consensus.

Board Chairman Diaz announced negotiations for a contract for McFaddin to be initiated and executed in December or sooner if the board desires.
