Personal Responsibility Main Theme Of EKU Convocation

Stu Johnson

Eastern Kentucky University Interim President David McFaddin says a “One Eastern” theme is particularly important during today’s times.  McFaddin delivered his first convocation virtually Thursday morning from the Center for the Arts on the Richmond campus.

The school’s top administrator said coronavirus testing is a key part of the fall semester strategy. “We have 14 trained and qualified contact tracers on our campus.  We will be able to serve our students, our faculty, our staff in a timely and responsive way in complete coordination with the Madison County Health Department,” said McFaddin.

McFaddin said “personal responsibility” takes on new meaning.

EKU Provost Jerry Pogatshnik says budgetary challenges create an emphasis on shared sacrifices versus personnel reductions.    He said many vacant positions have been eliminated.  EKU students begin class next week with both in-person and online instruction.

EKU Vice President of Student Success Tanlee Wasson said the Richmond school’s overall enrollment dropped less than one percent.  During a time of COVID-19, the administrator noted a greater loss was anticipated.  She said about 35 hundred students are expected in residential halls, about 700 less than last year.  There was no increase in tuition, housing, or dining for this semester.?
