A month from now most public universities in Kentucky are scheduled to open for fall semester. The exception is Western Kentucky University, which is set to start a week later. All the schools intend to offer a mix of in-person, hybrid, and fully on-line courses.
Eastern Kentucky University Interim President David McFaddin says the emphasis is on choice. “We have got every option if someone is looking to continue their education and they’ll be able to choose the method by which that would be delivered and so, it’s going to be choice involved for our faculty and our employees and there’s obviously choose involved for our students.”
McFaddin admited nothing is in stone when it comes to scheduling during this time of coronavirus. He said when developing a structure for a return to campus a resurgence of COVID-19 cases was not anticipated.
McFaddin noted it’s possible, a week out from the start of classes, the formula could be modified. “What we learned in the spring is that our curriculum and out student experience must be responsive. It’s got to be more flexible and it’s got to be designed in a way where it can move from one platform to the next,” noted McFaddin.
All the schools are also planning extended move-in periods for students.
