Kentucky’s public higher education governing board has set some parameters for establishing tuition at universities this year. The action taken Friday is characterized as creating flexibility during a health crisis period.
The Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education voted to not set a statewide cap on tuition next year for in-state undergraduate students. The decision provides schools, including those in the Kentucky Community and Technical College System, the ability to respond to student needs while also shoring up institutional programs.
Final tuition rates and fees are still subject to CPE approval. University officials will return in June to justify any increases for the 2020-2021 academic year.
Some Kentucky campuses have already pledged not to raise tuition while others say they are considering an increase of about two percent.?
