Fayette School Board Sues Over Vaping Concerns

The state’s second largest school system is suing manufacturers, distributors, and retailers of electronic cigarettes and other vaping devices and products.  Fayette County becomes the second school district in the state this week to take the matter to court.

The Fayette School Board voted unanimously to file the lawsuit in line with growing concerns about youth addiction to vaping.  Bullitt County schools just outside Louisville took similar action earlier this week.

Fayette Schools said officials have seen a 310 percent increase in disciplinary incidents involving all tobacco from 2015 to 2018.

“The targeting of school children by these companies, both with their products and marketing campaigns, has led to an unprecedented rise in nicotine addiction among our young people. As a champion for children, I was compelled to ask our school board to take this extraordinary step of filing a lawsuit to stop the insidious marketing practices of these companies and demand resources to fight this epidemic,”? said Schools Superintendent Manny Caulk.
