Five Kentucky Schools Honored With Blue Ribbon Status

Five Kentucky public schools are among those listed as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2019.  362 public and private elementary, middle, and high schools across the country were selected for academic excellence.

That includes Perryville Elementary in Boyd County. School Principal Christopher Slone said this honor will hopefully motivate Perryville students to maintain good study habits.

“I think anybody likes being validated in what you are doing and I think that’s what it does for our kids.  They recognize that they are working hard and recognition like this just validates their efforts as well,” said Slone.

East Valley Elementary School Principal Amanda Lee  said students and staff at the Morgan County school are “over the moon excited” about being named a National Blue Ribbon School.  Lee noted good academic performance help      children become productive members of society.  “We want them to have good morals and we want them to have a good foundational education behind them, but we want them to be structurally sound individuals who know how to hold down a job, who know how important it is to get to work on time.  We want our children to be well rounded,” explained Lee.

The four other public schools in Kentucky earning national blue ribbon status are Barret Traditional Middle, East Valley Elementary, Murray Elementary, and Shopville Elementary.  A recognition event in Washington D.C. is scheduled in mid-November.
