Berea College is being recognized nationally for its campus farm. The 500 acre farm placed 17th out of the nation’s top 40 postsecondary farms.
The rankings come from ‘College Ranker,’ an organization that researches schools all across the country. Berea College’s farm listing is based on a number of factors including hands on experience, community outreach, and degree options.
The farm, which borders the southern Madison County campus, has acres of pastures, cropland, gardens, woodlots and ponds. It was cited as one of the most diverse educational farms available to students in the United States.
Berea College students have a variety of farm related opportunities such as production of beef, cattle, hogs, chicken, eggs, goats, fish, honey bees, grains, vegetables, fruits, and herbs. These items might be found in the Berea College Farm store or on a plate in the historic Boone Tavern dining room.?
