Higher Ed Consortium Seeks More Business Involvement

bluegrasstomorrow.org

Central Kentucky higher education leaders gathered last week for a business summit. Members of the Bluegrass Higher Education Consortium met in Lexington to discuss a range of issues. Bluegrass Tomorrow President Rob Rumpke says one goal is to shorten college careers from six to four years.  "Getting them graduated, getting them into lifelong learning. And there by creating a better economy for central Kentucky," said Rumpke.

Rumpke says a major part of the initiative, now three years old, is to enlist more businesses to get directly involved with schools.  "We have Lexmark to a certain extent, Toyota to a certain extent.  Really we don't have many businesses that really engage with our schools and that's what we're trying to do here," added Rumpke

Twelve universities and colleges are a part of the higher education consortium.  The group also works with school superintendents.
