U.S. News & World Report Ranks Kentucky High Schools

A Louisville high school ranks as the best in Kentucky, according to the 2013 best high school rankings released by U.S. News & World Report. U.S. News joined with the American Institutes for Research in Washington, D.C. to evaluate schools on student performance on state-mandated assessment tests, according to the publication's website. In all, data from more than 21,000 public high schools in 49 states and the District of Columbia was evaluated.

Schools were ranked within their own states as well as nationally, U.S. News said.

A high school in Dallas, Texas, ranked as the best in the nation.

The top 20 public high schools in Kentucky, according to the publication's website, were:

1. duPont Manual, Louisville
2. South Oldham
3. Ballard, Louisville
4. Brown School, Louisville
5. Eastern High, Middletown
6. Beechwood, Fort Mitchell
7. Louisville Male
8. West Jessamine
9. Larry A. Ryle, Union
10. Atherton, Louisville
11. Williamstown Jr. Sr. High
12. Corbin
13. Murray
14. Bardstown
15. Graves County
16. Elizabethtown
17. Frederick Fraize, Cloverport
18. Meade County
19. Hancock County
20. Southwest High, Somerset
