Hundreds of Kentucky young people could get a feel for jobs well established in their communities. It’s the first ‘Career Craze’ event offered by the Kentucky Community and Technical College System. 32 hands on camps will be held at 16 K-C-T-C-S colleges across the state. Chancellor Jay Box says participants will be introduced to ‘potential careers.’ “It’s an opportunity to expose young students to careers in business and industry and entirely focusing on the five major sectors of employment here in Kentucky,” said Box.Students from ages 12 to 16 will participate in camps focusing on agriculture, energy, engineering technology, healthcare, manufacturing, plastics technology, or utility. Box says upwards of close to one thousand students could participate in camp activities.
“In Kentucky, which is kind of a reflection of the number of camps focusing on this area manufacturing is the top sector, so we’ll have more camps on manufacturing. We do have, of course, energy and healthcare as strong ones that will be provided,” added Box.
Box says 21 camps will be held in June alone with the last camp the first week of August.
