Ky History, Civil War, Confederate Monuments on Eastern Standard Encore

Jack Brammer
/
Lexington Herald Leader

During recent weeks, heritage and history have been on the minds of many in the south and elsewhere.  Following the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia there have been renewed discussions about Confederate symbols and monuments.

In Kentucky, Lexington is moving forward with plans to relocate two statues and, just this week, there have been renewed calls to remove the statue of  Jefferson Davis from the Rotunda of the State Capitol.

In light of current events, on this week’s Eastern Standard….we bring you an encore of a show we did two years ago with a focus on the history of our great state.

Our guests: Trevor Jones, (at the time) Director of Historical Resources at the Kentucky Historical Society. Trevor is a nationally known expert in helping museums of all sizes rethink how artifact collections help tell amazing stories about their communities. Trevor is now Director/CEO of the Nebraska State Historical Society.

Ashlee Chilton, (at the time) a Museum Educator at the Kentucky Historical Society, who has also worked with the Explorium of Lexington: a children’s museum, where she developed educational art programs.

Ashlee is now Curatorial Assistant at the Kentucky Horse Park's International Museum of the Horse.

It’s a recorded show, so we can’t take your calls or read your emails or tweets on the air but we do encourage you to write to us any time by email at: wekueasternstandard@gmail.com, post a comment to the WEKU Facebook page.
