Ribbon Cut on Lexington's New Police Roll Call Center

Stu Johnson

A new Central Sector Roll Call facility for Lexington Police is twice the size of its former home not more than a block away.

The mayor, several council members, and public safety officials participated in a ribbon cutting Wednesday at the Industry Road site.

The new facility, on the west side of Eastland Shopping Center, is where Central Sector patrol officers report for duty each day.

The Division of Police is building up its officer staff with the intention of developing a fourth sector.  Police Chief Mark Barnard says this fits in well with that goal.

“This is the next step of anchoring another spot in Lexington.  This is a twenty year lease.  We want to be in this facility. We want to be in this area.” Said Barnard.  “We want to make sure that we’re representing the neighborhoods and the growth here.”

That includes the nearby Hamburg area off Winchester Road and the new Frederick Douglas High School.?
