Lexington Jail Implementing New Visitation Policy

lexingtonky.gov

A new inmate visitation policy goes into effect Wednesday at the Fayette County jail.  It’s aimed at ensuring security with less wait time for visitors.

Fayette County Jail Sargent Jennifer Taylor says jail visitors will now be allowed evenings between 4:00 and 7:00.  She says no Monday visits will be allowed.  Visits were already prohibited on Friday.

Inmates will be allowed to have no more than five people on their visitation lists.  That number was previously as high as 30.  Inmates can change their visitor's lists every three months.

Taylor says the changes are not being made due to any particular incident.  “It’s just something that we’ve been watching for over a year and felt like now was the time to implement the new changes,” said Taylor.

Taylor says just under 1300 inmates are currently housed in the jail on Old Frankfort Pike.  She says this is the first major change in visitation since the facility opened 16 years ago.   The jail official says the new visitation policy is still more generous than state standards.?
