Contraband Search Conducted at Kentucky Prison

corrections.ky.gov

Kentucky prisons will be the site of ‘contraband’ searches over the next several years.  Such an inspection took place at Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex Monday.

Correctional Emergency Response Team members come from several prisons across the Commonwealth.

State Corrections Commissioner Rodney Ballard says the inspection turned up homemade weapons and homemade alcohol.  “You know, it’s their job to sneak it in and it’s our job to catch it.  So, it’s just an industry issue that we just got to stay on top of,”

Ballard says it was a routine search.  He says the West Liberty facility was not selected as a priority site over any other state detention facility.  The commissioner says homemade weapons and homemade alcohol were found during the contraband search.  Ballard says it’s aimed at making the prison safe for both inmates and staff.?
