EKU Officials Investigating Threat of Gun Violence

police.eku.edu

The Eastern Kentucky University community is on high alert following a threat of gun violence.

The threat came in the form of graffiti found on a bathroom wall Monday night.

University officials say the graffiti message specifically warned of gun violence to EKU students on February 11, 2015. EKU spokesman Scott Cason says the university considers the message a terroristic threat and will treat it as such. “It’s reasonable enough to us in the nature of the threat that we will take it seriously," Cason says. "We’ll pursue it as a criminal case."

Cason says officials are working internally to identify any students who may have exhibited any behavior that would indicate they could be prone to this type of threat. He says EKU is also working with local, state, and federal agencies.

Cason says anyone who has information should call EKU police at 859-622-1111.
