Weekly coronavirus activity on an uptick

After weeks of falling coronavirus cases, Governor Beshear Monday reported an uptick in the count over the last seven days. The governor said there were 9506 COVID cases last week, compared with 7919 the previous week.

Beshear stressed the importance of getting boosters. While many Kentuckians are already eligible for a booster shot, the governor said he’d like to see no limitations. “There are a number of other states, four or five I think, that just recently issued executive orders saying everybody could go get a booster. I’m going to look at it. We’re going to analyze it, because everybody should be able to get a booster six months after their second shot, as quickly as we can,” said Beshear.

Beshear said this is not a time to be alarmed but be knowledgeable that COVID is still very present. The governor noted statewide 58% of Kentuckians have been vaccinated. The governor added the upcoming holidays reaffirm the importance of vaccinations and boosters. “In the very least, the fact that we are no longer in a decrease and what happened last holiday season should have people running out to get vaccinated before the holidays this season. You can protect yourself; you can protect your family. If you haven’t wanted to do it for whatever reason, just knowing you’re getting together with them. Do it, for them,” explained Beshear.

Governor Beshear said 45 additional deaths were reported Saturday, eleven Sunday, and ten Monday. The governor said the deaths being reported generally occurred over the last three months.
