Kentucky Nurses Association Continues To Stress Masking In the Fight Against COVID

Stu Johnson

Kentucky Nurses Association CEO Delanor Manson said the science about coronavirus changes as the virus changes. She said everyone should be good stewards of that information. Manson says that includes wearing a mask indoors, even if you’ve had COVID or have been vaccinated. “You can breathe in the virus that can get in your nose and you can share it with other people. The Delta virus is very contagious. And even if you’ve been vaccinated, you can get the virus in your nose and share it with other people,” said Manson.

The Nurses Association representative noted a liner or double masking is best with a cloth facial covering. Manson added n95 and kn95 masks are preferable. “Wearing a mask is not painful, except for those people who have been wearing them for hours and hours and hours and those are the nurses and the doctors and other healthcare providers who are wearing them to protect themselves and also to protect patients. And if they can do it, why can’t we,” explained Manson.

Manson said there have been cases of nurses being treated with disrespect at vaccination and testing sites. The Nurses Association representative recommended thanking health care providers for showing up and continuing to offer care. Manson added, “this is still the year of the nurse.”

And Manson urges all eligible Kentuckians to get the vaccination.
