Fayette County Health Department Spokesman Kevin Hall said close to 20% of coronavirus cases in Lexington have come since August first. While this seven-week period has seen a major uptick in cases, Hall said the last two reporting days found the seven-day rolling average take a slight dip. “This does not mean this is over. This does not mean that people stop doing those guidelines like wearing a mask. It just means that, hopefully, the numbers aren’t going to continue going up like the have been since August first,” said Hall
Hall noted just over 70% of eligible Fayette Countians has gotten vaccinated. But, he said that’s not the case for all of the surrounding counties and those individuals are making trips into the Lexington area. “We need more people from surrounding areas to be vaccinated, cause these are people coming into Fayette County to shop, to visit, go to ballgames. Just existing,” noted Hall.
Hall said the health department is prepared to carry out guidelines when it comes to distribution of booster shots.
