The Engle-Bowling Funeral Home has been a part of the Hazard community since 1907. Funeral Home Owner Wayne Bowling said the loss of life associated with coronavirus has hit the eastern Kentucky community hard. Bowling said a medical official with Appalachian Regional Healthcare reached out to his funeral home earlier this week when the hospital’s morgue reached capacity. “They were going to have to bring in mobile refrigerated units, if they had another decedent at that point in time. So, they reached out to me and we’re willing to utilize our facilities here to help them any way possible,” said Bowling.
Bowling said that includes hospital access to the funeral home’s walk-in refrigerated morgue. The funeral home owner noted that step has not been necessary so far. Bowling added the last year has been challenging in providing funeral services and he said it continues to be ever-changing.
