Governor Beshear Says Another Uptick In Coronavirus Cases Is Possible

Governor Beshear

Governor Beshear says another wave of coronavirus cases across Kentucky can’t be ruled out.  After eleven straight weeks of decline, the number of COVID-19 cases appears to be leveling off.

During his Monday update, the governor said the aim is always to see the number go down. “It’s not good news if we are no longer declining.  We always want to be declining and remember our numbers are still fairly high as compared to early in the pandemic.  It’s good news, though, that we are not escalating,” said Beshear.

Beshear also said there could be a slowing of demand for the vaccine.  He ran down a list of vaccination sites and their openings.  The Kentucky Horse Park location has about 1800 openings over the next week.

When asked about the possibility of a vaccination passport someday in Kentucky, Beshear said he thinks the private sector may implement that type of verification process.   “I believe that the private sector is looking toward safety is going to drive ways to prove that you’ve been vaccinated to have certain opportunities.  And while everybody’s focused on government, I think the private sector and the way that it innovates is gonna what to know who’s fully protected and who’s not”

Beshear announced the formation of the Kentucky Unemployment Insurance Fraud Detection and Prevention Task Force.  The governor added that it would be a coordinated effort of state and federal entities.
