A new online tool is now available in the Lexington area to help point residents to food delivery sites around town. Nourish Lexington is a collaboration of several entities. It prepares and distributes food to anyone in need.
Glean Kentucky and FoodChain have developed an interactive map. Glean Kentucky Executive Director Stephanie Wooten said it pinpoints locations serving either hot meals or pantry items.
“You don’t need to provide any documentation. You don’t need a referral before you arrive. You know, we understand that many people are finding themselves in a situation that they weren’t in previously and they might not be as familiar with the feeding landscape,” said Wooten.
Wooten says volunteers with Glean Kentucky collect excess produce from area farms and groceries. The city of Lexington has supplied a half million dollars in federal funds to various agencies to address food insecurity issues.
