The Power of Singing: Global and Political
The Power of Singing: Global and Political
The Power of community singing is often used for political purposes. Music can be a powerful form of "soft power, a way of influencing others that does not rely on force or might. Our repertoire will include Lorena, a popular song with Confederate and Union soldiers during the Civil War; Put, vejini, a Latvian folk song sung during the Singing Revolution in Latvia; and We Shall Overcome, from the U.S. Civil Rights movement.
