Triple A Predicts Climbing Gas Prices This Spring And Summer

Stu Johnson

Just in time for spring and summer vacation traveling, gasoline prices are likely to be rising in the weeks ahead.  Triple A’s survey indicated those gas pump prices aren’t likely to change many vacationer’s plans.

It’s all about comparisons.  Dominika Wielgus stopped to refuel in Lexington yesterday.  Wielgus moved to the U.S. from Poland two years ago and says she doesn’t mind the price at the pump. “The gas prices are perfect here.  I mean in comparison to Europe, oh my gosh, you go to Europe and you would be like ‘I don’t want to live here, it’s too expensive,” said Wielgus.

Triple A said the U.S. State Department’s announcement to end sanction waivers for countries that import oil from Iran is likely to help drive prices above three dollars a gallon.  Blue Grass Triple A Spokeswoman Lori Weaver Hawkins doesn’t expect a huge bump. “I’m not hearing anyone predict that we’re going to go over four dollars again this summer,” noted Weaver Hawkins.
