Developers Coming Together on Lexington Centre Point Project

Progress at the Centre Point building site in the middle of downtown Lexington has some urban county council members asking for government action to help further construction.

Two commercial developers are now joining together for the high rise office and retail complex.

The Lexington based Greer Companies is joining the Webb Companies in building the $200 million project.  It involves an underground parking garage, a 12 story office tower, two hotels, and a steakhouse.  Company Owner Phil Greer says the 700 space garage should be finished in the next month.

The Lexington government has a restoration agreement with the Webb Companies, saying if work didn’t proceed on the garage, the hole would be filled.

Tuesday, Lexington Council Member Kevin Stinnett asked that the agreement be rescinded.

“There is a timing issue, obviously we’re winding down on construction season and if they have the ability to move forward, by all means that get that project to keep moving,” said Stinnett.

Council voted 8-7 to move such a resolution onto the docket.  Greer says work on the high rise development should go vertical over the next six weeks.  He says plans call for it to be completed next spring.
