Lexington Taking Workforce Development Grant Applications

lexingtonky.gov

Non-profit workforce development organizations can make grant applications for a part of $300,000 in Lexington government funds to assist with job training.

This second round of funding represents twice the amount distributed previously.

Chief Development Officer Kevin Atkins says the emphasis in this grant program is training, not job creation.

“The first question we get asked today by potential clients or those that are looking to expand or locate here, tell us about your workforce.  It’s the number one question no matter what company you’re talking to,” said Atkins.

Atkins says the urban county government has a separate jobs fund that focuses on workforce training for private sector groups.

The application deadline for the non-profit job training grants is the end of business on October 16th.
