Asbury University Launches Film Industry Workforce Development Initiative

asbury.edu

A private Kentucky private university is launching a workforce development initiative aimed at boosting qualified workers for the film production industry in the state.

Officials at Asbury University introduced the new Work Ready certificate program Tuesday.

The program allows participants to earn a Work Ready certificate in a matter of weeks, not years.  It does not require the completion of a two or four year degree program.

The Kentucky Film Certification Program offers tracks in areas ranging from audio to camera to set construction.

Kentucky Tourism, Arts, and Heritage Secretary Don Parkinson says expansion of the film industry workforce in the state would not be possible without the efforts of Asbury University.

Filmmakers produced 36 movies in Kentucky last year.  The state office has approved an additional 136 films for production this year.
