Ceremony Held to Highlight U.S. 68 Reconstruction Project

A new four lane highway between Paris and Millersburg could benefit existing businesses while opening up communities to additional retail.  State and county officials gathered Monday for the ribbon cutting of the widening of U.S. Highway 68.  Millersburg Mayor Sam Chanslor says one local industry is likely to see more traffic.  “Murray Mining hauls mining equipment in and out of town and it will make it a lot easier for them,” said Chanslor.  “We’re hoping that that’s gonna lead to attracting some other industries and also helps us promote our downtown district.”

The move to four lanes along Highway 68 between Paris and Millersburg is part of a larger road improvement project.  “Eventually we’ll complete a project that’s gonna run all the way from Maysville to Lexington to allow commercial traffic especially to have a better access to I-75 and I-64,” explained Chanslor.

Chanslor says the remaining work to make the completed connection between Lexington and Maysville covers about 10 to 12 miles.?
