State Funding for Rupp Project Could Be Reconsidered in 2015

kentucky.com

A central Kentucky lawmaker believes the current success of the University of Kentucky men's basketball team could further talks of state funding for a Rupp Arena renovation.

Madison County Senator Jared Carpenter says despite a failed attempt in 2014 to secure $80 million in state funds, the issue could get another chance in 2015.  "Any time you have a program that's doing so well and right now what kind of job they're doing and the national level of exposure with this system that they've got, I think it gives more people the desire to want to see it do well," said Carpenter.  "But I'm still not for sure if people want to see us spend a tremendous amount of money with not everything being there.,"

Carpenter is a former college basketball player.

Lexington Representative Ruth Ann Palumbo is doubtful the Rupp issue will be on legislators' radar in February.  "Well, this is not a budget session coming up and so, I really don't think there will be discussion about Rupp," said Palumbo.

Lawmakers head back to Frankfort the first full week of January to select their leaders in each chamber.?
