Several Kentucky post offices this month will operate over the weekend. In an effort to help customers avoid long lines, the postal service will be open the next two Sundays.
Lexington's Blue Grass Station Branch off Lansdowne Drive will be open from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. December 14th and the 21st .
Spokeswoman Susan Wright says she can't remember any time previously that the post office was open on Sunday. "Sunday hours, something we're trying and we're sure they'll be successful,” said Wright. “People seem to be shipping more and more items and package delivery is very important to us as it is to all of the carriers this time of year."
Other Kentucky towns with Sunday post office hours include Louisville and Bowling Green. Wright says it's all about options. "Well, the primary purpose is just to offer a few other options to customers in addition to paying postage and mailing items from their home, paying postage on line, also using our automated postal centers in our lobbies," added Wright.
Postal officials anticipate more than 607 million pieces of mail to be processed nationwide on Monday. ?
