The Blue Grass Station is taking advantage of a new law to help the complex better meet the needs of its federal agency customers.

House Bill 318 was officially signed into law in March. Wednesday's ceremonial signing by the governor marks the real celebration for the facility.

Blue Grass Station in Avon is home to 2,800 employees who work to supply the needs of federal agencies. House Bill 318 will give the complex the ability to make facility modifications in a timely manner. Director Steve Collins says Bluegrass Station customers have important missions in homeland security and defense.  "When they want to keep up with the latest, either threat, or advancement or even a quality of life issue, they need to do it now," said Collins.

Prior to the law's passage, Governor Steve Beshear says there was an excessive amount of red tape to cut through in order to make facility modifications. He says the law allows for flexibility.  "You had to go through mountains of paperwork and about 18 different agencies in order to make any alterations or do anything out here in terms of the structures. And now this has really streamlined the process so that we can move quickly when a contractor needs something, so they can fulfill their mission for the country and for the military complex that they work for," said Beshear.

Officials with Blue Grass Station say the facility contributes $300 million each yeah to the area economy.
