A Lexington man’s effort to preserve the artistic legacy of his father got a boost this month with an exhibit in Brooklyn, New York. As WEKU’S Mary Meehan reports, it’s another step in the 18-year journey of Seth Tuska and a way of taking his father “home.”
Although born in the coal fields of Pennsylvania, John Tuska grew up in New York. The libraries and streets of the city fueled John Tuska’s creative spirit.
“The blessing of John Tuska’s life is, or maybe the other part of the the fairly tale is, that at age six the mine closed during the Depression and the family was force to move to find work and they moved to Brooklyn.”
So Seth Tuska cold-called the mayor of Brooklyn and pitched an exhibit.
Mythos: Tuska’s Art of Reflection, debuted last week with 18 original sketches. It’s an interactive exhibit allowing patrons to add to a sketchbook filled with John Tuska’s drawings and musings.
Seth Tuska hopes to find still more venues for the show. But John Tuska’s work can always be found on the campus of the University of Kentucky where he taught for 30 years.
