In Lexington, it’s a little bit easier to find concerts, art installations, galleries and arts-related events. On Tuesday, LexArts launched the LexArts app that allows users to search for arts-related events in Lexington.
The app features a map function that shows where street murals, studios and events like plays and concerts are located throughout the city.
LexArts President and CEO Ame Sweetall, said the app is a way to help people connect to the arts community as in person events are making a comeback.
“We knew that it was going to be a big task to really get the community back out into the arts again, and getting everybody engaged and going out to events and activities,” Sweetall said. “We didn't ever want you as a consumer to sit at home and not know that there was stuff going on.”
The goal of the app is to ensure that people know about arts events.
“So we wanted to make sure that we made a really fast, easy, accessible way for everybody to know what's happening in the arts in your community, and especially now that the arts are really coming back.”
Sweetall says that artists and organizations can submit their events to be included in the app.
