Home energy assistance applications can be filed this week

Stu Johnson

Low- income Kentuckians this week can apply for home energy assistance through the longtime federal program called LIHEAP. Individuals or families who are at or below 150% of federal poverty guidelines and are responsible for home energy costs can sign up.

Community Action Kentucky Opportunity Lead Katlyn Miller said residents in all 120 counties in the Commonwealth can see if they are eligible. “So, if you live in Bell County, you’re going to apply for LIHEAP in Bell County. Every Kentuckian has that opportunity if they meet the eligibility requirements and as long as there are funds available,” said Miller.

Miller said she couldn’t speak to the possibility of receiving a higher level of assistance due to COVID conditions. The state Community Action representative noted there has been consistent federal assistance during the pandemic. Residents have from now through December tenth to apply for the fall subsidy component of assistance.
