Damage assessment continues following flash flooding in far eastern Kentucky. The communities of Ransom and McCarr saw as much as three inches of rain in a short time early this week. Pike County Emergency Management Director Doug Tackett said the damage doesn’t appear to be high enough to qualify for federal recovery dollars. He noted residential repairs will likely fall on the homeowners. “They’ll probably have to take care of it themselves, I’m sorry to say. But, you’ve got to have a large number of destroyed homes before we get assistance from FEMA. And I don’t know that we’re going to have that much,” said Tackett.
Tackett said it appears two homes were destroyed and another eight to ten residences suffered major damage. The Pike County emergency management official added the remnants of Hurricane Ida didn’t cause any additional, substantial damage.
Tackett says impacted families are either staying in their damaged homes or with other family members. He said there’s been no request to establish a shelter.
