Transylvania University Requiring Vaccinations This Fall

Transylvania University is requiring students, faculty, and staff to be vaccinated against coronavirus. The vaccine announcement came in a campus-wide email from Transy President Brien Lewis Wednesday.

In his correspondence, Lewis said with this week’s news of FDA approval to one of the three vaccines, the university will require all students and employees to be vaccinated by October 13th. Classes begin at the private Lexington school August 30th.

A two-day COVID vaccine clinic is scheduled Saturday and Sunday, August 28th and 29th from noon until 5:00 in the William T. Young Campus Center. As previously announced, students, employees, and visitors are required to wear a mask in common and public spaces inside buildings.

Lewis said Transy’s guidelines continue to be based on advice from local, state, and federal public health experts. Transy joins a handful of private colleges requiring the vaccine including Berea College.

So far, public Universities in the Commonwealth including UK and EKU are not mandating Coronavirus vaccinations for faculty, staff or students.
