The campus of Eastern Kentucky University in richmond was locked down for about 30 minutes Thursday afternoon following reports of shots fired. Richmond Police declared the lockdown around 2:30 p.m. and issued an all clear shortly after 3:00 p.m.

EKU officials issued the alert as a precaution following 9-1-1 reports of gunfire.  The reports centered near the area of Wellington Court and Second

Street. Wellington is near both the campus and Madison Middle School, near downtown Richmond.

Updates on the situation were sent via the EKU RAVE security alert system. To sign up for the system click here.
