Chipoltle Mexican Grill scored well with Consumer Reports readers.

Nearly 37,000 Consumer Reports subscribers responded online to the magazine's first major survey about fast-food chains and the results are in:

-- "For burger fans, In-N-Out Burger rated highest"

-- "Chipotle Mexican Grill was among the best of 8 leading Mexican food chains."

-- "One chicken chain topped the rest hands down: Chick-fil-A."

-- Jason's Deli and Firehouse Subs scored well for their subs, hoagies, heros and other sandwiches.

-- "The single standout for pizza: Papa Murphy's Take 'N' Bake Pizza, which has an unconventional concept where the patrons order a pizza to bake at home."

Readers were asked about quality, service and price. According to the magazine, the big boys — Burger King, KFC, McDonald's and Taco Bell — got dinged for "uninspiring food, though they also had so-so service."

As for which chain makes the best fries, Wendy's gets the nod from Consumer Reports' experts.
