Swiss Man Rockets Over Grand Canyon

STEVE INSKEEP, host:

Good morning. I'm Steve Inskeep, with congratulations to Yves Rossy. The Swiss man flies a jet suit, wearing a small pair of wings and a jetpack. He's flown over the English Channel that way and planned to fly over the Grand Canyon Friday. But the FAA approved his flight too late to allow practice runs. Finally, yesterday, he rode a helicopter over the Grand Canyon. He dropped off the side of the chopper, started his engine and soared for eight minutes before landing.

It's MORNING EDITION. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
