Creative Prom Invite Gets Student Suspended

RENEE MONTAGNE, host:

Good morning. I'm Renee Montagne.

In Shelton, Connecticut, high school senior James Tate wanted to ask someone to prom in a special way, so he enlisted a couple of buddies to help him. In the middle of the night they brought a ladder to the school and taped this message in tall letters to the side of the building. Sonali, will you go to the prom with me? It worked, kind of. She said yes, but the school said no. it suspended James for trespassing, which means he can't go to the prom.

It's MORNING EDITION. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
