Ticketmaster To Roll Out Variable Pricing

(Soundbite of music)

RENEE MONTAGNE, host:

NPR's business news starts with Ticketmaster's new pricing plan.

(Soundbite of music)

MONTAGNE: The nationwide ticket seller has announced plans to roll out a new system this year. It's called flexible, or variable, pricing. It means tickets prices for concerts and other events would vary, depending on demand. Airlines and some sports teams already use a similar system.

Prices go up for the best seats at big events but drop if there are unsold seats in the days just before a concert. Ticketmaster is hoping to boost stagnant ticket sales with the plan. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
