Report shows December’s county-by-county unemployment rates in Kentucky

Kentucky’s unemployment rate rose above 5% last month as more people are joining the state’s labor force. That’s according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics.
Of that, counties in central Kentucky had among the lowest jobless rates. Woodford County had the lowest rate at 3.8%. That’s followed by Anderson, Fayette, Shelby and Washington counties.
Eastern Kentucky counties posted the highest jobless rates. Martin County has the state’s highest rate of 12.4%. That’s followed by Magoffin, Elliot and Lewis Counties.
Jobs are increasing in Kentucky despite the unemployment rate rising. The center attributes that to people entering the labor force faster than they’re finding jobs.
Both the number of people in Kentucky’s labor force and the number of people employed increased last month.
