City officials cut the ribbon Monday on the final phase of an affordable housing complex in west Lexington. It raises the total units available at the Parkside Apartments to 108.
The property, originally home of the Gardenside Cabana Club, then the YWCA, for years suffered from neglect and vandalism. AU Associates purchased the property almost a decade ago for redevelopment upon receiving affordable housing tax credits.
Angela Clayborne is a resident of Parkside. “I was in affordable housing, but not so safe. So, I came out here several times and looking, contemplating. So, they had the place right for me,” said Clayborne.
All three phases represent an $18 million investment in the Gardenside neighborhood. Lexington Mayor Jim Gray says the city has also leveraged more than $100 million in affordable housing private investments into the community.
