During his coronavirus briefing Wednesday Governor Beshear reported 1346 new cases, the largest one-day increase. He also announced seven additional deaths including two veterans from the Thomson Hood Veterans Center near Wilmore.
Beshear reiterated cases in long term care facilities don’t originate there. “The virus doesn’t arise in one of these centers. It is brought in to one of these centers. And none of the workers in the center would ever intentionally bring it in. And it didn’t arise with them. Somebody spread it to them,” said Beshear.
Beshear said he spoke with mayors and county judges across the state. He said the conversation included information on national and state trends, testing, and vaccine development. Beshear urged Kentuckians to step up and continue preventive measures in what he termed a third escalation.?
Kentucky Public Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack said COVID-19 treatment today makes hospitalization sooner in certain cases important. The number of Kentuckians receiving hospital care has been increasing. Stack said that type of medical attention can help prevent complications. “There could be times when some people who got earlier care could be helped because the medications that we use right now only get used on hospitalized patients. So, yeah, if you are having trouble breathing, if you feel like you are really sick, go to the hospital,” noted Stack.
Still, Stack said if only mild to moderately ill, going to the hospital sooner would probably not help. He added checking with a primary care provider first is a good idea.
