Governor Beshear is telling local school officials, as a general rule, he will not be making any more recommendations about in-class or virtual education come September 28th.  He asked school leaders to wait until that date before deciding about moving forward with in-person instruction.

During Monday’s briefing, a process for parents and schools to report COVID cases was unveiled.  Public Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack said local control is based on a positivity rate under 6%. “Now if the test positivity goes up to 10% and the hospitals are running out of beds, then we’re going to come back and we’re going to step in and give different guidance, if it’s above those levels,” said Stack.

Governor Beshear said Kentucky businesses should face penalties if they’re negligent in requiring coronavirus related protective measures.  The governor responded to a question regarding a citation issued to a Lexington business.  Beshear noted it’s partly about caring for those who work in businesses.  “If you’re going to get the service from them, they should be protected.  Put on the mask.  And if businesses are not following it, yes it’s time to see some more fines,” explained Beshear.

Governor Beshear also reported 342 cases of coronavirus Monday along with five new deaths.  The state’s current positivity rate, according to the governor’s office, is 4.1%.  Beshear said more than a million COVID-19 tests have been conducted.?
