A substantial roadway rehabilitation project is proceeding along the Versailles Bypass.  The work, which began in early April, goes far beyond a re-paving project.

District Seven State Transportation Spokesperson Natasha Lacy said the almost two mile stretch of roadway is seeing curbing, guardrail, and water runoff upgrades.. “Currently the contractor is working on drainage pipes in the center of the roadway and we’re adding geotextile fabric and that’s a fabric which is actually a new material and that’s going to be put on the existing concrete base,” said Lacy.

Lacy noted this new material should help keep the roadway from becoming uneven over time.    Lane closures are needed to make the improvements.  “However traffic can pass through.  People should plan ahead for that area and know that you could be on a slight delay.  But, the work has been going on for quite some time so, most everyone is aware of the ongoing project,” explained Lacy.

The project is slated to be completed this October, but Lacy added that timeline could be moved up.
