AAA Bluegrass: gas prices should hold steady over July 4 travel period

Heading into the 4th of July weekend, Kentucky motorists aren’t likely to see gas prices jump. That’s according Triple A Bluegrass public affairs manager Lori Weaver Hawkins. Following an increase in crude oil prices related to the Israeli and U.S. attacks on Iran, Hawkins said they’ve begun to drop again.
“That should be passed again along at the pump, just like it was when they jump up, but there may be a few days lag, depending on when that retailer may have made their wholesale purchase.”
Weaver Hawkins says even trouble in the Middle East, pump prices here had increased a few cents due to summer blend fuels that cost more to refine. She said barring unforeseen events, gas prices should hold steady and may drop a few cents.
“There's nothing on the radar about taking a big jump before we get to the Fourth of July holiday from where we are now.”
Hawkins said the average cost of a gallon of regular unleaded in Kentucky Friday was $2.93 cents – up 20 cents since New Year’s Day.
