Kentucky Emergency Management asks tornado victims to document damages

Kentucky emergency responders are telling tornado victims to document their damages as the state waits for federal assistance.
The state is currently requesting approval for federal help from FEMA.
Kentucky Emergency Management says to take photos and save receipts of any damage before doing any cleaning or repairs.
FEMA spokesperson Maria Padron says tornado victims shouldn’t apply for help until that’s approved.
“For the new event, people will have to wait until we get a new declaration,” she said.
FEMA staffers can offer advice on the application process in the meantime through their disaster recovery centers. They’re open for victims of February and April’s storms.
Kentucky Emergency Management says to call their helpline at 502-607-6665 for assistance in the meantime.
