Edelen Files for Re-Election as State Auditor

Democratic state Auditor Adam Edelen has filed for re-election.

Edelen filed his candidacy papers Wednesday afternoon with the Kentucky secretary of state's office. The former chief of staff for Gov. Steve Beshear is seeking a second term for the office that audits the spending of all state agencies.

After several high-profile investigations, including audits examining the finances of the state's largest public school districts and the state Agriculture Department under former Commissioner Richie Farmer, Edelen was considered a candidate for governor in 2015. But Edelen announced in June he would seek re-election instead of a time-consuming run for the state's top office, citing family concerns.

Edelen is the first person to file for auditor, according to the secretary of state's office.
